About Our Forest

The Back Woods at the Museum of Science & Industry is a 25 acre forest preserve in the midst of urban Tampa, Florida.

On your visit:
*Enjoy nature trails that wind through Florida sandhill, flatwoods, hardwood hammock, and wetland communities!
*See examples of Karst topography in two sinkholes
*Learn how stormwater wetlands store and clean the water before it returns to the aquifer
*Observe numerous songbirds, woodpeckers, and raptors that find refuge in our urban forest oasis
*Sneak a peek down a gopher tortoise burrow
*Challenge your mind with questions about Florida plants and animals and the ecosystems that support them.
